Minister Sven Gatz, FCC Commissioner for Education and School Construction, said:"This important investment fits within our broader ambition to sustainably strengthen Dutch-speaking education in Brussels. The infrastructure of a school is closely linked to the quality of education and is an essential lever to increase the well-being of pupils and teachers. This up-to-date infrastructure will also be available for community-building activities A matter of efficient use of space to support the Dutch-speaking network in Brussels. In doing so, we are leaving our mark on our city and bringing a new dynamism to this part of Brussels."
The educational infrastructure of 13,400 square meters includes more than 2,000 square meters of space for sports and exercise. This sports facility will also be available to neighborhood sports clubs outside school hours. This project also includes space for the De Maalbeek community center, which will have a second home here, including a 375 m² theater and several multipurpose rooms. This shared infill of the site reflects the FCC's broader ambition to make the best use of space in the city. This renovation project of the former Beobank seat is being realized by Befimmo, commissioned by the FCC. BAM Interbuild will undertake the construction. In the redevelopment of this existing building into a multifunctional educational campus, maximum efforts are being made to achieve circular renovation, while preserving and repurposing the existing structure of the building. The unique location of the building has several advantages, including more than 7,000 square meters of outdoor space and easy accessibility.
"It is quite an honor to participate in promoting Dutch-speaking education in Brussels with this project," said Jean-Philip Vroninks, CEO of Befimmo. "By preserving the existing building structure to the maximum and focusing on circular renovation, we are transforming the old industrial building into a versatile education campus. We are delighted that the collaboration between Befimmo and the Flemish Community Commission will make a significant contribution to the local community and have a positive impact on future generations."
