Sustainability Wheel Extended NlSustainability Wheel Extended Nl

Since 2022, BAM Belgium has placed additional focus on developing and implementing a genuine sustainability policy during its operations. From this, a sustainability wheel has emerged. This comprises the eight of the 17 key Sustainable Development Goals or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) formally adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015 with Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

The SDGs can be divided into five major themes: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership.

Through our activities within BAM Belgium (Kairos, BAM Interbuild and BAM fm), two SDGs are part of our core business:

Product leadership (SDG9).
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

Life-cycle solutions (SDG 11)
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

In addition, BAM Belgium selected six other SDGs to develop further, supported by global developments from clients, legislation, and the industry.

  1. Decarbonization (SDG 7).: Reduce carbon emissions to limit global warming and its effects.
  2. Circularity (SDG 12).: Use circular products by using limited resources and avoiding waste.
  3. Climate adaptation (SDG13).: Adapt the environment to be built to increase resilience.
  4. Biodiversity (SDG 14).: Increase biodiversity and support ecosystems.
  5. Safety, health and inclusiveness (SDG 10).: Nurture safe, healthy and inclusive living and working environments.
  6. Social added value (SDG 8).: Work with associations to improve lives. Read all about our social intiatives.

CO₂

Reducing our carbon emissions has become a major area of improvement. We are striving to switch more and more to renewable energy. We want to realize this ambition both on our sites, in our offices and in our warehouse.

What actions have we already taken?
(see CO₂ action list)

  • Purchasing green power for various projects.
  • Introducing and encouraging telecommuting, including video conferencing.
  • Encouraging fuel emissions from leased vehicles by using TCO.
  • Systematically switching from fossil fuel to biofuel (HVO100) for generators or yard vehicles.
  • Extensive electrification of our vehicle fleet.

What's next on the agenda?

  • More pervasive use of green power for the new contracts.
  • Reducing use of diesel groups in yards by using battery groups that charge with green electricity.
  • The use of road plates to reduce consumption of yard equipment.
  • Use of low cement concrete
  • Use of green steel
  • Project in CLT
  • Consideration of means of transportation (ship instead of truck)
