BAM Interbuild signs contract for new school campus on Pleinlaan in Ixelles

BAM Interbuild has signed the contract for the conversion of the old Beobank building on Pleinlaan 1 in Ixelles. The Beobank building will be converted into a multifunctional educational campus with 1,150 new school places and space for community center De Maalbeek.

"With this €60 million construction project, the creation of a large educational campus in a prime location in Ixelles, the FCC once again proves its commitment to Dutch-speaking education in Brussels. With this, we leave our mark on our city and create a new dynamism in this part of Brussels," said Minister and FCC Board Member Sven Gatz.

BAM Interbuild will be responsible for the construction and renovation of this project realized by Befimmo, commissioned by the Flemish Community Commission. The realization is taking place via a PPP formula, a renovation project of the former Beobank headquarters. The current structure and H-shape of the building will be redeveloped in a smooth and flexible way into a school building in which two secondary schools, including a theater hall, sports infrastructure and common multipurpose rooms, will each be integrated autonomously into the existing structure, subject to a number of structural interventions and adjustments.

"With this project, we are once again making a strong commitment to circular renovation, transforming the existing building structure. We are proud to make a significant contribution to the local community with this beautiful project, while promoting Dutch-speaking education in Brussels."

Works will begin in May 2025 and will run for 16 months. The campus is scheduled to open by September 2026.The design provides:

2 underground floors, of which level -2 will serve as a parking garage.
A thorough sustainable transformation of floors -1 through +4 into two secondary schools and a community center.
A sports hall over three levels, two multipurpose dance halls, a rooftop playground and basketball court on level +5.
