Scheldekaai & Zuiderflank

Residential projects with L-shaped floor plan and views of the Scheldt River

Scheldekaai and Zuiderflank are both residential projects with eight and four upper floors, respectively. Together, they house 69 apartments and 1 commercial space.

The project brings both building volumes together in one building, configured in an L-shaped ground plan where Scheldekaai is located along Ledeganckkaai and provides a view of the Scheldt. Zuiderflank is located parallel to Jan Vanhoenackerstraat from where the common courtyard garden is accessible via a pedestrian and bicycle path.
Together with the adjacent residential tower "Scheldezicht", the building has a common basement consisting of three underground levels. The underground basement accommodates 176 parking spaces, 234 bicycle parking spaces (accessible by bicycle elevator), 71 storage rooms, technical rooms and water tanks.

The building is executed in white precast concrete elements for the walls, floor slabs and terraces, provided in 2 different textures. The exterior joinery consists of aluminum in anthracite color. The parapets of the terraces will be made of glass with wooden handles. A divider between the apartments in white glass forms a recurring accent for the terraces. The terraces will be finished with wooden cladding. The flat roofs will be installed as extensive green roofs.
Scheldekaai boasts a more luxurious interior finish and a beautiful view of the Scheldt, Zuiderflank with a more intimate feel.

Scheldekaai and Zuiderflank are part of the 'Nieuw Zuid' project, a new district in the south of Antwerp. The project area is located between the Scheldekaai, Namenstraat, Jan van Gentstraat, Brusselstraat and the Ring Road.
For the entire 'Nieuw Zuid' site, an external heat network was installed by the city of Antwerp, which provides heat to each building through the use of renewable energy.
