Restoration of monumental castle initially built by Counts of Flanders

Five stars no less counts the new Hotel Charles V, which the international hotel chain Kempinski has opened in the Prinsenhof in Bruges. Interbuild restored the monumental castle, built in the fourteenth century by the Counts of Flanders. The hotel has 96 rooms with a floor area of at least 36 m². Drastic measures were implemented to turn this hotel back into a beautiful place to stay. For example, the old convent wing, added in the nineteenth century and in poor condition, was demolished to make way for new construction. In the castle itself, some valuable period rooms, with paneling, fireplaces and gilded mirrors, were restored on the ground and second floors. The upper floors contained hardly any valuable elements and were completely dismantled and redecorated. A parking garage was built under the gardens.
