Renovation and restoration of offices for Royal Belgian Shipowners Association

The Albrecht residence, better known as La Rade, was designed in 1896 by architect Jos Hertogs in a rather sober eclectic style with predominantly neo-Renaissance elements. Already shortly after the residence was inaugurated, the existing interior decoration was replaced by decorator Henri Verbuecken. The stairwell with its glazed interior facade was decorated in Art Nouveau style. The clean floor and private rooms were transformed into period rooms. Today, the building is owned by the Royal Belgian Shipowners' Association. The restoration opted to preserve the layout of the house. The facade was preserved with reconstruction of both the tower above the loggia, and the facade facade on the ground floor. For the interior, the concept of Henri Verbuecken was chosen.

In this project, in addition to restoration, importance was given to the contemporary aspect of an office building. Thus, the 3rd floor and the attic are arranged as an open office space with duplex floor. The former courtyard was converted into a covered atrium. To meet today's comfort requirements, the necessary contemporary techniques have been integrated into the building. Thanks to this restoration, this building regains its former splendor and an important piece of heritage has been preserved.
