Important architectural value on Brussels territory in new look

This building, designed by architect Steynen, was built between 1961 (Block A) and 1968 (Block B) for telephony services (RTT, later Belgacom). Impératrice has an important architectural value on the Brussels territory and is located right next to the central station. Together with a project design team, the new owner Befimmo drew up a program to renovate and restore the building in order to convert it into rentable offices with contemporary techniques and materials. The client was even nominated as a laureate in a competition organized by the Brussels Institute for Environmental Management.

The building was completely renovated along the outside (concrete repairs, cleaning natural stone, new exterior joinery, painting ...) and inside, new raised floors, lowered ceilings, new techniques ... are part of the total renovation. Block A has six floors, of which the two basement floors were adapted to underground parking with new entrance ramp. Block B has eight floors. The above-ground parking lot, located on Loxum Street, was redesigned into a green garden that aesthetically connects to the city park across the street.

The building received the BREEAM certificate "Excellent.
