Project promoting social cohesion between different generations and cultures in Europark neighborhood

The LinkerOever InterGenerational Project (IGLO) aims to promote social cohesion between different generations and cultures in the Europark neighborhood. A new, social infrastructure should make housing, care, culture and social development, education and care accessible to all.

Earlier phases of this project already included building service apartments and a service center. The icing on the cake is this latest phase in which a residential care center was realized. This residential care center with 125 single rooms was founded on 362 screw piles formed in the ground. The total surface area is 9,426m² divided among 4 building layers, 3 of which are above ground. The exposed concrete walls in the central corridors, the straightforwardness in the design as well as the absence of anything superfluous such as plinths, embody the austere architecture of this design. Furthermore, the feeling of home is clearly central here: this is created, among other things, by the presence of a central kitchen with cafeteria, a number of communal living areas and the omnipresent view of nature. Wherever you are in this residential care center, there is always direct contact with one of the numerous gardens.
