New courthouse divided into 3 zones and integrated into new neighborhood park for neighborhood development and deployment

The Ghent courthouse is distinguished into 3 zones:

  • the public zone on Opgeëistenlaan, recognizable by its all-glass facade
  • the semi-public area with the session rooms and clerk's offices with landscape offices
  • the non-public area with the individual offices for the magistrates

In total, the building occupies 5 above-ground and 2 underground floors. The construction of interior gardens allows plenty of daylight to enter. The panoramic glass elevators and walls allow the public to look through the building, as it were, all the way to the inner gardens. Natural stone was chosen as the façade, a dark granite with a rough surface, used mainly for the office zone. Indeed, the more the zone is accessible to the public, the more use is made of glass in the façade construction.

Integrated into a new neighborhood park, the new courthouse functioned as a catalyst for the continued development and blossoming of the neighborhood.
