Impressive new construction and renovation of 3 buildings in the center of Brussels

The AXA 2017 project involves the new construction and renovation of 3 buildings located on Avenue de la Régence and Place du Trône in the center of Brussels. The middle building was completely demolished and rebuilt, with the level differences between the two flanking buildings being accommodated with integrated ramps, staircases and elevators.

The facades consist of a curtain wall with triple glazing, against which a diagonal tube system is attached as decoration. The base of the building is clad in natural stone, matching the facade of the adjacent historic building.

The two outer offices were renovated. In the historically valuable building on Throne Place, which has protected status, the atrium received a new glass dome. The building on the other side of the block was completely dismantled down to the skeleton and rearranged. The atrium roof was demolished to create an open patio.

The complex with a total above-ground area of 32,800 m² and 15,000 m² underground area obtained the sustainability certifications Passive 2015 (almost energy-neutral) and BREEAM certification 'Excellent'.
