Antwerp - 12.06.2025

On Thursday, June 12, the first edition of our Safe Design event took place in the brand new reception building of the Rubens House in Antwerp. A location that has extra significance for us, since BAM Interbuild itself was responsible for the construction of this beautiful building.

With Safe Design, we want to draw attention to an important theme in the construction industry: safety from the very beginning of every design and construction process. Too often, safety comes into the picture late, while it is precisely in the design phase that fundamental choices are made that determine safety during the construction, use and maintenance of a building.

The event brought together architects, designers, safety coordinators, engineering firms and other building partners around this shared responsibility. The evening featured inspiring presentations on the role of safety in the design process, complemented by concrete examples of good and bad practices. The interactive Q&A session provided room for dialogue, insights and sharing of experiences between the experts present and colleagues from the sector.

We are particularly grateful for the valuable contributions of our speakers: Phil Cullen, Filip Van Nuffel, Wim Straetmans, Patrice Vandenbergh and Paul Robbrecht. Thanks to their expertise and practical experience, the impact of well-considered choices at the design stage on the later safety of a building became clear once again.

The official part of the evening ended in the attractive garden of the Rubens House, where we could chat and network in a casual setting over snacks and drinks.

With Safe Design we want to provide an impetus to put safety even more emphatically on the agenda of everyone involved in the design and realization of buildings. We believe that real safety starts at the drawing board, and that every partner in the chain has a responsibility in this.

This first edition already tastes like more. Together we are building an industry where safety is a natural part of every design and project.
