New construction project as part of redevelopment Vaartkom in Leuven

This project is part of the redevelopment of the Vaartkom in Leuven. The interpretation of the project consists of 461 student flats, 5435 m² of retail and, in cooperation with the city of Leuven, a rotation parking for 979 cars, spread over 2 underground and 4 above-ground levels.

BAM Contractors, as contractor, was responsible for the realization of the shell, facade and facade brickwork. From the outset, the construction process was optimized. For both the parking building with integrated student flats and the tower building, the most efficient construction method was sought. The parking building with two underground floors was constructed with post-tensioned floors (28 000 m²) with columns and walls cast on site. The use of post-tensioning reinforcement made it possible to achieve a floor without sagging beams. This allowed the techniques to be mounted directly against the ceiling and maximized the available headroom.

The optimization of the construction process and continuous monitoring during execution made it possible to realize this project within the predetermined deadlines. Following a strict schedule for pouring the different floor sections in post-tensioning, made it possible to realize the parking building in only 9 months.
