Leisure site Zellik

Commissioned by the municipality of Asse, BAM Interbuild built a new leisure center on a former vacant site next to "Den Horinck." This modern building not only replaces the functions of Den Horinck, but also adds several new facilities. Thus it houses a theater hall with stage, the local Chiro, the youth center, a new library, a cafeteria and several multipurpose rooms. In this way, the site has become a versatile meeting place for young and old.

The construction of the center is part of a broader development of the site, where Den Horinck and some adjacent housing have given way to a large municipal park. The building has an industrial look thanks to the use of precast concrete and engineered concrete blocks, but also gains sophistication from the perforated facade and a striking floating staircase that appears to float above the foyer.

To meet today's energy requirements, advanced sustainable technology was chosen. The center generates heat from underground by means of a beoveld. For this purpose, 46 boreholes were drilled to a depth of 110 meters below the foundation slab, into which a coolant circulates via PE pipes. This technology ensures that heat is absorbed from the earth in the winter and the reverse happens in the summer, heating and cooling the building in an energy-efficient manner.

The new leisure center is thus not only a functional, but also a sustainable and future-oriented addition to the municipality of Asse.

Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, marked the grand opening of the leisure site.
