Tivoli GreenCity, a neighborhood in the Brussels borough of Laeken, may call itself the most sustainable neighborhood in the world. The exemplary neighborhood achieved the highest score ever on the BREEAM outstanding certificate for neighborhoods. It is also the first district in the Benelux to obtain the certificate.
The sustainable district stretches over 4.5 hectares in Laeken and houses greenbizz.brussels, about 400 passive and zero energy homes, retail, two nurseries and numerous community meeting spaces.
271 apartments, 126 social rental apartments (rented by the Brussels Regional Housing Company through the Laeken-Haard), two daycare centers for a total of 62 children and a series of local stores and services. The project includes the construction of a series of slow-traffic streets and sustainable mobility facilities, 5 semi-public parks conceived as biodiversity laboratories, innovative renewable energy systems, an experimental greenhouse.
