Impressive tower located in green area in Antwerp
Together with Avenue Building, the London Tower forms, as it were, the "final piece" of the entire AMCA site. Through their implantation, use of materials and architectural design, they act as landmarks at the end of the Slates, and their verticality has a gateway function that contrasts with the horizontal Palace of Justice. They also accentuate the access to the Island and to the world port behind. The facades of the 22-story tower are constructed of dark gray natural stone. The openings and incisions of the building, such as deeper day edges of the windows, terraces and entrances were clad in silver aluminum.
The London Tower is characterized by a plan structure around one core, which is split into a core section for accessing the residential function, and a separate core section for accessing the office function. The office area covers 5 floors and is equipped with 2 passenger elevators, separate sanitary facilities and technical shafts. The office area is also accessed via a corridor zone that surrounds the core. Although no connection to the residential part, consisting of 119 apartments, has been created. Only evacuation staircases are shared.
The annex to the London Tower covers two floors with a rather commercial interpretation. This part is accessible on the ground floor, both to the facade Italiëlei and to the rear facade side Willemdok. The immediate surroundings are also landscaped with greenery. Between Avenue Building and the residential tower, a public thoroughfare is planned, along which pedestrians and cyclists will be able to reach the new Spoor Noord park via a bridge.
