3 newly built film studios including one with largest and deepest underwater studio in Europe
BAM Contractors was responsible for the earthworks, structural work, wind and water proofing, partial finishing and environmental works of 3 film studios .
The complex includes large film studios with a respective area of 1,280 m² (studio 1), 1,750 m² (studio 2) and 1,420 m² (studio 3-4) and an indoor height of 13, 18 and 19 meters, respectively. Studio 3-4 makes the complex unique in Europe due to its water basin with permanently heated water with an area of 480 m² and a depth of 9 meters. This makes it possible to shoot underwater all year round. The entire studio can also be submerged 1 meter underwater to obtain an even larger water surface. The studio has a basement to house technical installations.
Indoor film studios have specific requirements for acoustics. Outside noise must not penetrate into the studio, but the studios must also be acoustically isolated from one another. Therefore, the foundations of the various building parts are separated. Pre-stressed concrete vaults were used for the roof and the facade elements are also solid in order to achieve the necessary mass. For Studio 3-4, the swimming pool environment and the resistance of the concrete to the chlorides in the air also had to be taken into account. Because the massive facades and roof elements in themselves provide stability, the columns could remain relatively limited in size.
