Versatile residential project near Ghent city center

Interbuild built the København residential project with 82 apartments with one, two or three bedrooms and with living space between 60 m² and 200 m². Underground parking spaces, bicycle sheds and a communal garden are also part of the project.

København is located in the outer harbor in the Muide-Meulestede district, close to all major approach roads and the Ghent city center. This area around the outer harbor is in full development and is considered the Ghent Docklands. The apartments are located on Copenhagenstraat, next to some historic warehouses.

The design was provided by the Ghent-based architectural firm Bontinck Architecture & Engineering and was inspired by sheds and harbor architecture. Thus, like a harbor shed, the building stands on a raised pedestal.

The facades are executed in brown/red brick, this was also matched to the existing port buildings in the area. The plinth is clad in blue stone and is laid out as a communal garden, trying to create a connection between the public domain and the (higher) building. The terraces are conceived as light precast concrete terraces but receive a black steel profile along the edge as a finish and balustrades in clear glazing. The main roof was integrally constructed as a green roof. The uncovered terraces are connected to a rainwater cistern for reuse.

Underneath the building is an underground parking lot over 2 levels, with a total of 156 car parking spaces and 188 bicycle parking spaces.
