Design, Build & Maintain of new college campus as it enters Antwerp

Commissioned by the Artesis Plantijn Hogeschool Antwerp, Interbuild performed the DBM (Design, Build, Maintain) of their new college campus. Campus Spoor Noord houses various programs, such as nursing, teacher training, and an information technology program. The departments of Health and Wellness, Education and Training, and Science and Engineering will find their new home here. The building is planned for 3,500 students and was additionally equipped with a cafeteria, library, parking for professors, and facility services for the entire school community.

A remarkable feature of the building is that it had to be fully integrated with the adjacent park slope of Park Spoor Noord. The lower level, building level -2, includes a parking lot of 211 spaces. Level -1 is equipped with classrooms and auditoriums and a large bicycle storage area. The central entrance, cafeteria, and a separate building with large auditoriums are located on the ground floor. All these classrooms are built around a central green patio.

On the second floor grouped around this courtyard are all the labs, they are the heart of the building. A real hospital department was recreated to support the training of future medical personnel. There is a high-tech skills labo, a neonatology lab, a critical care room as well as an operating room. All necessary resources are available for the practice of all techniques using the latest equipment,

Above the ground floor, the building is built in L-shape, with the wing along Noorderplaats raised to level +7 and the Ellermanstraat zone stopping at level +3. Accesses were created in several places between the adjacent park and the inner gardens of the school.

The building is equipped with all contemporary technologies, which posed a challenge to incorporate them into the complex shell construction. Finally, all façade elements were executed in white architectural concrete.
