At BAM fm, we are taking on the maintenance of streetcar line BRABO 2.
Currently on this section we are doing wave grinding, a crucial intervention to ensure the quality and safety of the track.
What is golf wear?
Wave wear is an undesirable phenomenon where the top of the track - normally completely flat - becomes slightly corrugated. This pattern occurs mainly on track sections where a lot of traffic passes. If you look closely, you can see a slight mark on the track every 3 centimeters.
Why do we perform wave grinding?
Tram wheels traveling over these irregularities cause vibrations that lead to a number of adverse effects:
- Increase in noise, which can be a nuisance to nearby residents.
- Loose rail fasteners in the long run due to constant vibration.
- Damage to the rail, where without timely intervention even pieces may break out of the track.
With wave grinding, we ensure that the top of the track is once again completely flat. This not only reduces vibration and noise, but also extends the life of the rails and provides a quieter, safer and more comfortable streetcar ride.
Of course, we do this maintenance during night hours so that streetcar traffic is not interrupted.
